Black Comet

Black Comet, the multi-dimensional galactic funk collective founded by Ninja, Laughton Kora (Kora, L.A.B, Fly My Pretties), delivers a groove-based journey infused with storytelling.

With Laughton’s theatrical background, this oozes through into the funky tunes created and performed by the band with high-energy and tight performances. The band consisting of Dan Antunovich on bass, Poihakena Reid on keys, sax and talkbox and Adam Tobeck on drums, this ensemble is talent a-plenty. With the desire to express the band as a “live jam”, they encapsulate this on the stage vibing off each other’s musical force.

2024 saw the band releasing their debut album ‘Episode 1: Looking For a New Planet’, on October 25th. With ‘Ooh Yeah Baby’ being the first single released in May, a special remix of ‘Sleep’ featuring Louis Baker on vocals released in June, ‘R.C’ released August 23rd, the album was accompanied by the single “Looking For a New Planet”. The album launched really making its mark with listeners.

In 2025 they have released their next album….Episode II: The Force Between Us.
With the first funky single ‘We Can Call It Love’ released in June and rock track ‘Happen To You’ supporting the album release on July 25th, they still have one more treat in store.

With the honour of playing at WOMAD Aotearoa 2025 (TWICE!), CubaDupa 2025, and Ripe Wanaka Wine & Food Festival they are excited for what is next in their voyage.

Black Comet has become a vessel for experimenting and pushing the ideas of current music. The band has been compared to the “ Millennium Falcon making the Kessel run in 12 par-secs”
